Sam Angell

Movement Coach

Sam Angell graduated from the BA Acting course at LAMDA in 2015. Since then, he has worked both as an actor (recent credits include ‘Peter Pan’, Regents Park Open Air Theatre and ‘Cat In the Hat’, Leicester’s Curve Theatre/UK Regional Tour) and as a Movement and Fight Director (‘Moonfleece’, Pleasance Islington; ‘Heroes’, Bridge House Theatre/Brighton Fringe; ‘Romeo & Juliet’, Katzpace). Previously, Sam worked as an actor in various productions from an early age, including playing the title role in ‘Billy Elliot’ at the Victoria Palace Theatre.

Most recently, Sam’s focus has been on collating his extensive background in Movement to establish his method as a Movement Practitioner. His practice draws from his work in dance (having trained with Scottish Ballet and David Hughes Dance Company), Martial Arts (Muay Thai and Boxing), Alexander Technique, Gymnastics and Pure Movement, which he is currently studying under mentorship from Jane Gibson (Head of Movement at the National Theatre for ten years and an Associate Director of Cheek By Jowl).

Sam also specialises in Stage Combat (BADC Level 3 [Advanced]), Calisthenics and Aerial Wire with Bungee.

As OA Movement Coach, Sam’s role is to prepare you physically for the demands of the Industry – from Choreography and Combat to physically embodying the character. Sam’s work with ‘release of tension’ and ‘inhabiting your body’ is particularly beneficial for those looking for a career on screen.
